Stated Simply: A Post About Soap!
Last week I mentioned that I’ve been having weird soap cravings but didn’t have enough soap-friendly space to line up all of the scents that make me swoon. (Being a Gemini, that’s a lot of scents.) Lo and behold: this weekend Boyfriend and I bought a brand new shower caddy! Now I have tons of room for the soaps I’m craving…which means I’m craving even more of them. The Etsy artist that really has my fancy, though, is savor. I mentioned this shop in my Black and White post, but just one mention doesn’t do this seller justice. Here are some of my favorite concoctions, from floral to sweet, feminine to masculine.
Along with Little Black Dress, Ciao Bella is the soap I covet most. It’s made with olive oil and shea butter, which makes it gentle and mild, and has just a touch of olive blossom for a sweet scent that doesn’t overpower. I love the calendula petars that give the soap texture – just looking at it makes me feel pretty and soft.
Inspired by the traditional Indian henna tattoo, Mendhi has a cedar base, with dashes of vanilla, rose, and lily of the valley. It’s also vegan, and sounds like the perfect soap to use before a night out dancing and dining with friends. It’s such a unique, sultry, exotic scent – why not show it off a little?
I love it when a shower or bath transports me to some odd little fantasy land, and this bar – even if it wasn’t called Alice – would do just that. If you haven’t already noticed, it’s bright blue, but that’s not all: the scent is a light white tea and ginger combination – spicey, yet delicate, and totally unexpected with its saphire color. Savor says it’s great for sensitive skin, too!
If you’re not into the girly stuff, Dread Pirate Roberts is for you. It’s a totally androgynous bar “scented with a warm blend of amber, freshly washed linen, a wisp of musk.” The name is awesome, of course, but the scent is what gets me going: sometimes it feels good to take a hint from the boyfriend and throw on a white tee, a pair of jeans, and a neither-male-nor-female scent. (And giant platforms, of course – ha!)
Most of Savor’s soaps are made with olive oil and/or shea butter, but the Raspberry Walnut Panna Cotta contains an olive oil/goat’s milk mix for a truly luxurious wash. Panna Cotta is an Italian dessert of milk, cream and sugar, and this one is gently flavored by sweet raspberries and earthy walnuts. It’s a great alternative to the typical strawberry and citrus scents.
I could go on and on (delicious Amaretto Honey Oatmeal! earthy and interesting Moss!) but there’s only so much I can say before I go into soap overload. I do have to mention, though, that Savor also sells body mists, shaving soaps (Geisha looks so amazing), men’s soaps (which Elle could use to get back at her boyfriend for calling her a diva ahem, as a gift for her boyfriend) and much, much more. Can’t decide? Get a sampler!
I’ve got a one more bar to go through before I can technically fit another soap on my new shower caddy (I went a little nuts with my soap stash after we bought it) but Ciao Bella is the next soap I’m using, economy be damned.
What’s your favorite soap (or body wash) of all time? Has your preference changed over the years?

really, really into lush’s alkmaar soap – jasmine and honeysuckle, but you know i’m a sucker for the flowery stuff.
also love their queen of hearts complexion soap which is great for normal skin that’s sensitive.
also, i dig the big blocks of soap that you can cut yourself at whole foods. i forget the maker, but they come with great packaging – perfect for gifts. (unless it melts in the texas heat…)
I MUST own the Dread Pirate Robert soap…how awesome! When you get hooked on something Jen, it is so contagious haha…I want to look at all the soaps now!
I absolutely love The Body Shop’s Strawberry Body Polish…it smells so yummy:

If you follow it up with their strawberry body butter you smell delicious all day, it’s great for hot summer days because I find it really brings out the scent. I use The Body Shop’s scrubby exfoliating gloves with the body polish to make my skin super smooth….<3 these products though I realize they aren’t quite what you go for on your website

I’m a HUGE Savor fan! I have several absolute Savor favorites:
My boyfriends teeshirt (don’t see it in her shop right now!)
Geisha http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25338993
And a new fave: Courtesan – http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_list_2&listing_id=25259172
Other than Savor, I love several bath and body works “flavors,” particularly Cherry Blossom.
Brenda’s last blog post..The irony of a cold in May
I’m currently loving Savor’s lychee bubble tea soap. The smell is hard to describe, but delicious…like a fruity tea. I also received a sample of her acai creme fraiche and I love that as well. Such great lather from the creme fraiche…
