Indie Ethereal
I’ve spent the last few weeks watching my fellow fashion bloggers research and muse upon the funky, casual nineties trends that have come back into fashion, and (because I spent my teens in Seattle in the nineties) loving every slouchy, grungy minute of it. I’ve also noticed more hard, architectural designs on the runway, and the fusion of the two – dark architecture and casual grunge – has led me to one conclusion:
It’s time for something a little lighter.
I decided to use the word “ethereal” as my inspiration, and dress this post in flowing fabrics with nature-infused, airy-inspired jewelry and a day-dreaming mentality. Here’s what I found:
Underneath: OnTheInside

When I want to feel feminine, I start with the basics: lingerie. These pretty pieces are from Etsy seller OnTheInside, who I’ve been personally recommended to more than once for custom-made or pre-fabbed delicates. If you feel like showing off a little, pick up the Honeysuckle camisole (with matching Bird of Paradise panties!) on the left; my hardcore green girls and comfort mavens should see the Organic Cotton Summersweet Bra (paired with Lily of the Valley panties). Most bras are a steal at around $35, and she can help you with sizing if you give her your measurements. Want to see all of her organic options? Check them out here.
On Top: Elizandaxel

Eliza + Axel are “transforming the common t-shirt” by adding 100% recycled silk, jersey, and other materials to Alternative Apparel tees and babydolls. I love how they’ve managed to add shape and give new life to these tops without making them look trashy (which is so common these days). The hand-embellished Chloe babydoll (left) is only $48, and the Serena babydoll (with real silk) is $72. Pair them with thigh-skimming shorts and jeweled wedges for a casual, flirty look.
On Bottom: MothLove

Each MothLove piece is handcrafted and one of a kind – and yes, I’ve got to let you know that first, because these Paonias Myops Bloomers are a whopping $95. Based in Portland and selling at shops in Oregon, Washington and Utah (as well as online, of course), Gretchen Jones’ old-fashioned design approach is expensive, but nets you one-of-a-kind clothing and accessories (inspired by caterpillars and moths) that are completely unique to you.
Added Charm: Monaco & OriginalHardware

The above necklace is called The Man in the Moon and features a large, white freshwater pearl dangling from a 1-1/2″ oxidized unfinished circle. It’s utterly charming without being kitschy, and at $26 it’s a steal.
If you’re willing to spend a little more dough, take a peek at the Earth & Sky pendant necklace from OriginalHardware. Three stones – an aquah chalcedony, dark blue topaz and green vavsonite – hang from three separate sterling silver circles, which swing from an 18″ chain. It’s $98, but also a timeless piece to wear in spring, summer, and even winter. All of their work is handcrafted and inspired by nature.
How do you stay feminine during this masculine-inspired time in fashion? What makes you feel utterly feminine and a little ethereal?

Love the light looks. It can be lovely being a girl sometimes.
Pamela Quevedo’s last blog post..Hello
Pamela: I also like that one can do “ethereal” without being too light. I’ve seen some of the best fantasy-inspired, feminine outfits done in deep purples, blues and greys.
Perfect theme for summer. Boy is it too damn hot in Seattle these days.
