Sustainable & On Sale: Velvet Leaf

File under: Awakened Options: Organic, Clothing, Fashion

I’m not the kind of girl who falls prey to “shop therapy,” but I do tend to take my mind off of unpleasant events by looking through a boutique window or two.  Lately, I’ve been going through all of my “favoriting” sites (where you can save some of your favorite online stores, blogs, etc.) and, while reviewing my StumbleUpon favorites list, I came upon Velvet Leaf, a sustainable clothing company I haven’t visited in a while:

s u s t a i n a b l i l i t y .

The ability to provide for the needs of the world’s current population without damaging the ability of future generations to provide for themselves. When a process is sustainable, it can be carried out over and over without negative environmental effects.
We are a sustainable clothing company. All of our clothing is ECO SKAL Certified, an International Control Union certification. This means that we not only use 100% certified organic cotton, but we manufacture using low wastegae dyes, fair labor, and sustainable packaging to name a few.
At V e l v e t L e a f , we are always looking for the “right” sustainable alternative. As green becomes chic, please rest assured that we never cut corners and will always be producing a 100% Certified organic product.

Not only does Velvet Leaf show serious enlightenment when it comes to sustainable practices, they’re also having a sale.  Here are a few of the pieces that have had my interest for a while (some of which I just might pick up, if I can spare the change):

Lola Blouse
original price: $104
SALE: $52

I recently bought a pair of semi-distressed, coppery-hued jeans, and this frilly, feminine blouse would be the perfect contrast to them.  I love pairing something really feminine with a more hard-edged look – it’s so unexpected, yet strangely complimentary.

Piper Short & Edie Hoodie
original prices: $120 & $144
SALE: $40 & $77

I don’t know that I’d wear these together, but I would definitely wear the hoodie with something structured, and pop that oversized hood up when an unexpected Seattle storm hits (and they’re always unexpected).  The shorts are really flattering for most body types, and being that they’re only one third the original price, they’re a steal.

Elliot Skirt
original price: $204
SALE: $82

The one place I need a size chart: I’d buy this skirt in a heartbeat if I knew I could fit into their size 6.  The cut is incredibly flattering, and the waist is perfect for almost any shirt: loose and baggy tops will rest on the petalled portion, and tight shirts will show it off while making the waist look smaller.  You really can’t lose here.

Stella Jacket
original price: $200
SALE: $100

This is what I’m covetting most.  It’s the perfect winter coat: structured and classy, but with a touch of whimsy and interest that makes it perfectly noticable while still looking good with everything in your wardrobe.  And it’s half off.  The question, now, is whether I can fit into a “small/medium”…

I’ll shoot out a quick email to Velvet Leaf and ask for a size chart.  Once I have it, I’ll update this post – in the mean time, let me know if you have any favorites!

A side note: StumbleUpon is a pretty awesome tool, and you should totally check it out.  If you like one of my posts, Stumbling it (by clicking “share this” at the end of any post and choosing StumbleUpon, or clicking “Stumble It!” in the right sidebar) helps me reach out to more people with my site.  So get the green word out, and stumble all of your favorite eco-related sites (including, but not limited to, mine)!

  1. Ooo, I like that jacket. For only $100… But will need to lose a few lb. to fit into that… not to mention the tiny skirt. Oh, so glad to be near 40 :)

  2. Nurit: I know! I wish they had larger sizes. I’d rather have good food than a tiny waist, though. ;)

Oh man, these are all incredibly adorable. I think I’m going with the collette cape, piper short and ruby dress, though i also really want to go for the lulu dress in charcoal, but i’m not sure it will look as good on me and don’t think i should risk $190 right now…much as i want to. I will try to let you know what they look like when i get them.
