What About Wednesday: The Starting Line
Once a week I ask the same bleary-eyed question: “What about Wednesday?” It’s my day to post whatever the hell I feel like, with no regard to fashion, eco-consciousness or, occasionally, even coherent thoughts.

It’s like preparing for a race – the grueling physical training, the psychological psych-up, the shiny new running shoes – and, on the day you’re going to kick everyone’s ass, being ten minutes early to the starting line.
That’s how I’ve been feeling throughout the past week. I’m so completely and utterly ready to move out of this house, to move into our new house, and there’s no way to make the time move any faster so I can just get it over with.
Once the pre-packing is done (it can’t all get put away – I still need that toothbrush) and the utilities companies are called, there’s not a lot to do until that fateful “moving day.” Then the real fun begins: tossing clothing in boxes, bribing friends with pizza and beer, and finally, staring at the overwhelming job that is unpacking into the new place.
But what do I do until then? How do I stay productive when I just wanna get the hell out of here?!
After some pacing and whining, I decided to start preparing for the move in a different way. I’ve been researching all of the things I have been unable to do at my current place (due to location, time, etc.) and reevaluating how I might be able to do them at the new place. Two of the things I’ve been looking at most closely are practicing Aikido and taking Bikram (hot) Yoga. Since I have been going on and on about being healthy over at The Demoiselles Getting Healthy page, I’ll direct you there for more on that front.
But the other thing – the other thing! – is entertaining. Designing a living space. Having a gorgeous house with its hardwood floors and well-put-together-but-still-lived-in atmosphere. And that, my dear readers, is a very fun way to pass the time until the move.
Now, if I could just convince my boyfriend that the Transformers and Gundam models can stay in their boxes instead of being displayed…
I kid, I kid.
(Mostly.)
How would you design a new living space?
Would you have a theme, a color scheme?
Zen and simple, or busy with patterns and knick knacks?
Give me some inspiration!

When we moved into our house it was all about letting the 110 year old house speak to us and to be true to it and our life. We refurbished some areas and added some new elements (like a Viking stove because we like to cook and cable Internet) but everything looks like it belongs. We’re really lucky that our house is old and has great character and quality but we were able to update it to live in today’s world.
I usually am able to figure out what I want pretty quickly… that said, I still had to repaint my guest room a few times before I was happy and it took me a while to get my color combination for the living room. The rest was a cinch!

That is actually one prospect I am very excited about since I moved here. While I am currently staying with my aunt and uncle, I am working on moving out to my own place sooner rather than later…and I spend quite a bit of time thinking about what my place would look like.
I usually go for a really comfortable vibe…the sort of place that looks nice but you know it’s okay to come in and put your feet on the coffee table sort of place. Since I the majority of my possessions back in Michigan, I love that I get a fresh start…I don’t want to be bogged down with a lot of the extra crud I had back there. I love plants, so I guess that would be my main decorating theme…hrm…lots to think about….haha
Good luck with thinking of ways to make your new place home and lemme know when that beer and pizza moving party happens!
