Get Green Gifts: Scarves, Stationery & Cosmetics

November 23, 2009
File under: Green Gifts, Sustainable Sales

Gilt‘s really ramping up for the holiday rush, and their organic, fair trade and sustainable offerings are no exception.  While I can’t say I’m excited to blog during the Black Friday / Cyber Monday chaos, I do like that there are tons of eco-friendly options for me to choose from in my own holiday shopping.  Gilt has started the week off on a high note, sustainably, with Armand Diradourian Scarves, Bell’Invito Stationery, and tarte cosmeticsAll three sales start today at 9AM PST. (Need an invite?  Use mine.)

Armand Diradourian Scarves (also at Gilt Man)

“The cheerful accessories from Armand Diradourian let cashmere do what it does best — keep you warm and colorful. These hats, scarves, pillows and blankets are dressed up with sophisticated color combinations like wasabi green with orange and a splash of absinthe yellow. Best of all, this cashmere has a conscience: Diradourian accessories use only fair-trade yarns hand-knit in Nepal.”

Potential giftees:

  • Quirky classmates and coworkers
  • Your favorite aunt, sibling or cousin
  • That boss you like but know nothing about

Bell’Invito Stationery (also at Gilt Man)

“Who said the word “couture” was just for fashion? Certainly not Bell’Invito founder Heather Wiese Alexander. When the Italy-educated art director stumbled upon a collection of 19th-century printing presses in a family-owned warehouse, she knew she’d found the perfect way to marry her love of Italian craftsmanship with her taste for fresh, modern design. Bell’Invito is known for its varied catalog of meticulously crafted letterpress sets, from contemporary stripes and color-drenched Victorian florals to classic nautical and architectural themes. All of Bell’Invito’s sophisticated collections are made on antique, hand-fed presses using the highest-grade paper stock and [soy-based] inks available.”

Potential giftees:

  • The friend that spent all of November participating in NaNoWriMo
  • The couple that just bought their first house
  • Your post-college best friend

tarte cosmetics (also at Gilt Fuse)

“Tarte Cosmetics is proof that eco-friendly doesn’t have to mean granola. Founder Maureen Kelly lends a couture voice to a healthy, nourishing makeup line. Tarte offers a wide range of cosmetics full of “skinvigorating” ingredients, including vitamins, minerals and a proprietary blend of free-radical-fighting fruit and plant extracts. But the best part about these cheek stains, anti-aging foundations and lash enhancers might just be their packaging. They come in sleek, catwalk-ready cases and compacts made from recyclable or post-consumer material, so you’ll be reducing your carbon footprint one mascara wand at a time.”

Potential giftees:

  • That friend whose face is always flawless, even in crappy Covergirl shadows
  • The vintage queen at your office
  • Your younger sister’s first glamorous makeup set
  • Your first glamorous makeup set
