OOF: In the Dollhouse

Written on November 5, 2009. Written by Jennifer Nicole.

More often than not, my days are too full for outfit posts.  This one felt so good, though, that after changing into yoga pants, taking the dog out and doing some dishes, I put it back on just so I could snap a few photos.  And so it was born: my very first Occasional Outfit Foto (OOF!).

 coat
Jacket: Lekkerlife (Seattle-based indie designer)

I got this jacket at the Deco Modiste sample sale back in March, and it has since become a staple in my wardrobe.  (Apparently, bright pink felted cotton and giant black buttons go with almost everything I own.)  Every time I wear it I’m shocked at the number of compliments I get – along with the occasional, “Wow, that’s…pink” – and at how warm it is.  Though it doesn’t quite reach my wrists (it’s not meant to) it keeps my arms and chest toasty in Seattle’s October wind and rain.  (It also has a peplum. Swoon.)

dress
Dress: Prairie Underground via Tobi (eco-friendly organic cotton)
Tank:
Alternative Apparel via Mapel (organic, socially sustainable top; local, small boutique)

Why yes, I did buy a pretty dress instead of a Halloween costume.  I thought I would be forced to belt this, but it hangs beautifully on a curvy body.  Though it’s super low cut (hello, breasts) that just means I can tie black tights into the outfit with a black (organic cotton) tank.  (Also: Oh my god, organic cotton makes this dress SO COMFY.  I just want to lounge in it, barefoot.)

close
Bracelet: Madras 641 (independent, woman-owned US fashion designers)

I got this little surprise inside a package I received from Madras 641 just a week ago.  It’s so, so colorful – the photo doesn’t do it justice – and I wanted to add that jolt of color and fun for the moments I had to shed my bright pink jacket.  (Indie designers > cheap plastic crap from Forever 21.)  There are also some recycled class earings under all that hair, by Loot!.

UnAwakened Items:

  • Tights: Calvin Klein via Ross (they have these cool little cheetah-like spots on them)
  • Bird cage pumps: Ariel Caged Platforms by Banana Republic

I don’t know where to start! I love the heels, I LOVE THE JACKET! (this might sound offensive, but honestly, if you had shown me that jacket on a hanger I would think it would look hideous on curvy gals like us. but it looks sofuckingcute on you!), and the dress is amazing!

and I’m still in love with your haircut. :)

This is stupid fucking cute, I am stupid jealous. That coat! Also, your hair is growing out awesomely, I might be a creep and print a picture and take it to someone and say “MAKE ME LOOK 1/8TH AS AWESOME AS THIS LADY, PLEASE THANKS IN ADVANCE. ” Also, sorry “stupid” is my adverb of choice tonight.

I love the tights & shoes look! I didn’t think I would like it as much as I do. Also, that jacket is amazing on you! Adore the pink/black/nude combo.
