Skeletal Fashion
Halloween’s over, which means it’s the perfect time to buy things with skeletons on them. (Wait, what?) Allow me to explain:
When I was a kid, my mom bought me the perfect pair of overalls. They were the perfect shade of blue, had little pink hearts on them, fit me perfectly, and were so comfortablethat I actually jumped up and down when my mom said she’d buy them for me. (It was the nineties, okay?) I was so enamored them that I actually planned my outfit in advance – it was rare, back then – with a coordinating pink shirt and black Mary Janes.
Because I felt so pretty in my new outfit, I wanted to make the first time I wore it special…and because it was February, I chose to wear it on Valentines Day. (I think I was hoping that my cuteness would net me some extra candy.) All day, I felt good about myself – handing out valentine cards, eating candy, doing my lessons – and I wasn’t even phased when I didn’t get any “special” valentines from the boys. Who cares? I’m freaking adorable!
Cut to two weeks later, when I wore those overalls (with a different shirt and shoes, of course) for a second time. “Isn’t that your Valentines Day outfit?” the other kids asked.
Oh no, I thought. I’ve dated my outfit… And, though it broke my poor little heart, I never wore those overalls again.
That experience made me pretty wary of associating green shirts with March, sparkly red dresses with December and skeletons with – you guessed it – Halloween. Instead, I wear them at every other time of year, just so no one asks me if I’m being festive. I just like bones, okay?

That tank top is ADORABLE. I want it. I always have a hard time finding stuff with cool graphics that’s in a flattering cut (i.e. not crew cut!), so I’m pretty excited about that!
