Sustainable Sales: Mountainsmith
Maybe it’s the Pacific Northwest in me, but one of my favorite physical activities – the one that gets my blood pumping and puts my soul at ease – is hiking. The taste of crisp, clean air, the feeling of hard-packed dirt beneath my boots, the view of so much green at the top of a forested hill…it’s the antithesis of big-city life, and happy hour, and makeup and hairspray and hangovers. (Speaking of which, how was everyone’s Halloween?) When I’m out hiking, all I’m worried about are keeping my eyes open to the flora and fauna, staying on the trail, and packing out what I pack in.
Ignoring the fact that the upcoming sample sale on eco-friendly backpacks by Mountainsmith is being featured on Gilt Man (girls don’t like backpacks, Gilt?), I’m still excited to see it. Each backpack is made using over 100 recycled plastic bottles, and the process makes them really durable, as well as aesthetically pleasing. The idea of making hiking gear using sustainable methods completely embodies “packing out what you pack in,” you know?
The sale starts today at 9AM Pacific, and features not only backpacks, but also trekking poles, camera cases and duffels. Any photogs need a new camera bag?
