What About Wednesday: Get Over Yourself
[[Once a week I ask the same bleary-eyed question: “What about Wednesday?” It’s my day to post whatever the hell I feel like, with no regard to fashion, eco-consciousness or, occasionally, even coherent thoughts.]]
What the hell is everybody whining about?
It seems that this month’s theme is “complain about other people.” Many of my friends have already gotten incensed about Christmas gifts (she didn’t thank me, he didn’t give me what I wanted), or judged others’ motives for attending or not attending some holiday party, or whined about how something, somewhere, just isn’t fair…to them.
I would sincerly like those people to do me a personal favor, and get a reality check.
It doesn’t matter what season it is: visiting others’ intentions is unacceptable, and then to blame them for the intentions you created is ludicris. If you gave someone a gift, it’s given, and judging their reaction doesn’t get you your money back.
For those of you that got a gift you didn’t want: do you really think you’re the only one? Instead of judging your gifter’s intentions, maybe you need to think about the impression you gave them, the reason they got you the gift, and hell, take the time to get to know them better. (You know, so they’ll get you something you want next holiday.*)
Long story short: If you don’t like something, or don’t think it’s fair, change it, or let it go.
Take accountability for your feelings and the responses they create. You cannot make someone grateful; you can only choose to be grateful yourself.

I know I’m cranky because it ain’t payday quite just yet.
Oh and it’s rather chilly.
Ridiculously chilly, that’s for sure.
I need some cash, too. Those presents won’t buy themselves.
I was *just* talking about this with Birdie. I never experienced this kind of crap when I was living at home, so to find out how common this kind of bitching is as an adult is kind of jarring. It makes me so sad to see that people put such an emotional price on their gifts. Yargh!
