Thursday’s Sustainable Sales: a Couple of Favorites
I’m trying to stay away from making regular “sample sale” posts, because as more and more companies go green, more of them offer their items up to places like Gilt, Beyond the Rack, Ideeli and Hautelook…and if I posted about all of the sustainable sales those sites provide, that’s all I’d post.
However, when I see two great sample sales – by my favorite vegan handbag designer, MATT & NAT (Beyond the Rack) and one of the giants of eco-fashion, EcoSkin (The Top Secret), I can’t resist.
MATT & NAT
Belts! We haven’t seen a sample sale on MATT & NAT belts before. (Guys! Belts!) Additionally, these vegan accessories (yes, my new readers: all of MATT & NAT’s products are made with vegan leather and recycled water bottles) are way, way cheap: that belt is $17, and those handbags are only $59 and $54 (down from $120 and $110, respectively).
Since I haven’t mentioned Beyond the Rack in the past – their goodies have been all right, but haven’t jumped out at my like Gilt’s stuff often does – here’s an invitation to join their members only site. As per usual, there’s no spam or scheming involved, and I only get a $10 kickback if you find something you really love – and anything I do get goes back to you, through hosting fees and item reviews for the site.
EcoSkin
I’ve always liked how straightforward EcoSkinis: their designs are basic, yet flawless; their methods are sustainable; and they’re completely transparent and committed to the cause of ecologically-focused fashion. All of the items shown above are made with organic bamboo tencel – an eco-friendly chemical processed bamboo fiber, as opposed to less costly (and toxic) bamboo rayon- and they’re actually affordable: $79 for that cowlneck dress instead of the retail price of $172.
If you’re looking for a good example of eco-friendly bamboo (or getting practice on figuring out the difference) this is a good start.
Don’t have a Top Secret invite yet? Here ya go.
