About Awakened Aesthetic
I’ve always kept my love of fashion and my intellectual pursuits separate. Science and aesthetic? That’s for innovative designers to worry about, while I hunt for sample sales with the History Channel playing in the background.
Just before this eco-friendly craze started, I stumbled across a few conscious designers – ones that use organic materials, give back to the local community, or promote social change – and was floored. Not only did these people think about their impact on the world, but they also made really gorgeous clothing. I hadn’t thought it was possible…but apparently, I was wrong.
I decided that it was time to take this inspiration and run with it. I began to search out my options when it came to conscious shopping…and then I decided to share them with others. (Because supporting local, socially-conscious and organic designers and boutiques really does make a difference.)
I’m openning my eyes to a new aesthetic, and I’m taking you along with me. If you’re looking to join the ranks of the eco-friendly, trying to shop more consciously, or otherwise love fashion and ethics in equal measure, you’ll find more inspiration – and temptation – than you can stand on Awakened Aesthetic. (Well, hopefully not more than you can stand.)
Since I’m not crafty, you won’t find any tips on “do it yourself” green ideas…but you will find tips on finding a decent tailor and taking care of your clothing so it lasts longer, which means you can wear those favorite jeans out at least twice before donating them to Goodwill.
It’s really quite simple: I find the best (and in some cases, cheapest) independent, eco-friendly, vegan, and otherwise-conscious designers of clothing and housewares…and you take the spoils.
If you have a specific conscious shopping need, a question about a designer, or a recommendation for an indie, local or organic product I should feature, email me at jen@awakenedaesthetic.com.
