That’s a polar bear in a plaid shirt.  Yep.  So good.

Corella Design calls this an animal lover’s calendar, but I think it’s more of a strange conversation piece.  I want to have a Valentine’s Day party just so I can hear someone say, “…is that a wolf wearing a hat?”

One of my “must see” countries is Greece.  This 2012 calendar by stephmel features original photographs of Greece, which has me looking at plane tickets.

There is something so unbelievably comforting about linen. The feeling, the look, the smell – they sell bottles of it in the home fragrance aisle! It’s such a natural-feeling fabric, and can be super luxe, or very rustic and earthy. So why not make a calendar out of it, right?

…Right?

The inks are water based, the linen is sustainable and unbleached, and the screen-printing and calligraphy are hand-crafted and adorable. I love the font or handwriting or penmanship of the artist – each month is so… beautifully written! And each month is accompanied by a tiny sketch. I would love to hang this exactly as it’s shown in the photos – clothespins on a piece of twine or yarn. Also great for a garden shed! The artist suggests using the calendar as a tea towel after the year ends. Too cute!

Paper Fashion is absolutely,without question, my favorite Etsy find so far this year.

I’m normally not into this style of art – it’s almost too rounded – but was surprised to find how drawn I was to this 2012 calendar by Movezerb.

It’s a little ethereal, right?  But not too soft – just bright enough to balance out the whimsy.

…and then soft in autumn.  Perfect!

I dare you to try to tell me that this isn’t the best thing you’ve seen today.

When I came across this calendar, I knew that my recent spiritual shift in focus was working. What better gift could a person receive than a calendar full of dapper, dandy, Victorian-era ANIMALS? That’s right, kitties aren’t the only animal accurate represented in this calendar… You’ll also find yourself in the company of fancy foxes, posh peacocks, flashy racoons, an elegant gazelle, and several others.

Not cute enough? Well, there’s also this little fact: this calendar is tiny. Only 2.5″ x 3.5″! Unbearably adorable.

There’s a part of me that is so, so retro; a part of me that wants to wear early-sixties hourglass-hugging dresses, live in a choice apartment, and go drag racing with my bad, bad boyfriend, who will call me “bird” even though it’s totally outdated just because he knows I like it.  (I even go retro in my fantasies about going retro.)

This retro calendar would add a nice seventies kick (sixties, seventies, who’s counting?) without taking an entire room back in time.  I can think of a few couples in my life that could benefit from something like this – couples that include one person who looooooves a certain decade or style or “thing,” and another person who just doesn’t get it.  It’s a good design compromise.

I watch a lot of cooking shows.  I think a love of cooking is contagious, actually, because the more I watch those shows (and the more I hear about my friends’ homemade meals) the more I want to cook.

One thing I’m very, very into is seasonal produce.  I may not be fond of root vegetables, but they’re a big deal during winter, and I’m definitely going to find a way to use them!  Local food is healthier food that comes from farms you can reach out and touch, and I want all of it.  (Glutton.)

This 2012 letterpress desktop calendar features an image of in-season produce on each of its pages.  January boasts – you guessed it – root vegetables, and June features my favorite fruit, a ripe strawberry.  A calender like this feels like an invitation to eat locally and healthfully, to forgo a frozen pizza in favor of a freshly-tossed pasta salad.  I can see the ripe tomatoes, asparagus and freshly-grated parmesan flying through the air right now…

…it would seem I need a snack.

As someone looking for healthy living inspiration, this calendar hits the mark.  It also hits my love for letterpress and simple, elegant design.  It’s pretty!  And yummy!

And now, I’m off to make that salad.

I know some owl hipsters.  You know how it is: they were into owls before owls were cool.  One of them is my boyfriend’s mom.  (Old lady hipsters are the best.)  But whether you’re an original owl lover or fell for them after learning about the Ordinary Wizarding Level (I have to admit, after watching Harry Potter I wanted my very own Hedwig), you have a million point five owl-related options to choose from this year.

Due to the breadth of owlstuff on the web, I got picky when choosing an owl calendar.  This illustrated calendar by Gingiber is one of the most unique owl calenders I found.  The pen behind the sword wand Etsy shop is Stacie Bloomfield, and she designs each owl by hand.  They’ve all been printed on 4×6 matte cardstock and no, they don’t have any special owl power, except being on sale for $18.00.
